I'm currently writing my dissertation upon the crisis of status that wallpaper is experiencing within contemporary society. The innovation displayed by various artists & designers over the individual components of design has led to a reinvention of its traditional form and function. Personal exploration has resulted in divergent results, confusing its classification. Does it belong in the visual back/fore-ground? Does it function as an art object or mere decoration? Will the collaboration of different disciplines impact the role and opportunities for the Surface Pattern Designer? What does the future of the industry hold? These are all issues that I am hoping to unearth through my investigation.
